Orthotic Shoes
When people have to walk and stand for long periods of time, they often suffer quite debilitating foot pain. Wearing orthotic shoes can often be the answer, restoring pain-free foot function simply because certain bones in the feet are now properly supported.
Stock size or modern shoes are rarely designed to adequately support the foot and if there is an inherent problem the wearer usually finds that he or she suffers foot pain of some kind. This can be in the form of blisters, corns and calluses, or it can be even more severe due to perhaps, fallen arches that are not supported.
Feet come in all different sizes and shapes; shoes come in lots of different designs, but the sizes and shapes are all pretty much the same. Even shoes in half sizes are hard to find. You may have much wider feet than what is considered average and so you will need wide shoes if you are not to suffer from foot pain.
Men who are taller than average often have much larger feet to support them. They will need to wear big men’s shoes if their feet are not to be cramped up all day. Having your feet measured and fitted by an orthotic expert is often all that is needed.
Orthotic shoes are often simply shoes that are large size shoes – wider across the toes. Or they may have a gentle rise in the instep area so that fallen arches can be given more support. Orthotic shoes for women will have a wider and lower heel support rather than those stiletto heels that many women find impossible to wear.
The walls of the heel area are often much sturdier in orthotic shoes to give support to heels that are slightly out of alignment. So if you have foot pain, try wearing shoes that are different from what you usually wear before heading off to the doctor. Orthotic shoes may make all the difference.
